Welcome to my portfolio. I am a third year Digital Design student at the University of Cincinnati's DAAP program.
Like hummingbirds, I persevere for what I need to survive. Animation, motion graphics, illustration, interactive design and creative writing are all vital aspects of my life. I'm always striving to learn more by solving design problems through teamwork, determination, and my own personal inspiration. To me, the result of design is a vessel through which anyone and everyone can experience meaningful works of art.

Paardebloem  >> Process BookThis personal project encompasses both my passion for horses and nature. In Dutch, paardebloem, or dandelion, means "horse-flower" and so I decided to take an imaginative look at the flight of a dandelion tuft. My goal was to give this natural cycle an enchanting quality through a sketchy and organic style. * Music from "Kecharitomene" by Loreena McKennitt, used only for class purposes.
T-Mobile Design Boards  >> Process Book & DetailsThis is a design pitch for a 30 second commercial featuring a phone and its ability to be an mp3 player. After researching a demographic, creating a persona, and gathering reference material, I developed these boards to propose the look and feel of the final animation.Click image to see a detailed gallery of the storyboard.
Constellations >> Process Book & Writing ExplorationsFor this class project I challenged myself by creating an abstract self-portrait. Although open to interpretation, the imagery and plot of the lion, stars and girl are meant to reflect aspects of my personality by evoking childlike emotions through storytelling and metaphor.* Music from "Chocolat" by Rachel Portman, used only for class purposes.
Pride & Prejudice Kinetic Typography >> Process BookThis typographic portrayal of the scene following Darcy's proposal to Elizabeth shows the intensities of the character's feelings while still maintaining their fluid and elegant language. Translation from sound to graphics began by studying the intonation and mood of the audio selection. A poster was then created that would effectively communicate the dialogue in its static form while also acting as a map for the final motion piece. *The audio of this piece was taken from Pride and Prejudice (2005)
Flash Animation | This Flash animation was an exercise in characterization as well as basic animation skills.
Letter to Number Transition | In this assignment I explored the anatomical relationships between the number 7 and letter F in order to create a visually interesting animation. My goal was to demonstrate the type forms' similarities while still maintaining their integrity.
Seasonal Transitions >> Process BookIn this assignment, the goal was to combine photographs, typography, and abstract icons into layouts representing a word for every season. Referencing all of these elements, I created a content-based system of interactive communication with local and permanent animated changes. Click the name of the season to advance the layouts.
3D Logo Animation | This short logo introduction was animated for a fictional tattoo parlour and was created in Maxon Cinema 4D and After Effects.

Abstract Design Sequence >> Process BookAfter studying leaves, sketching, and compiling a library of designs, I drew inspiration and chose an elegant approach in creating a 5 sequenced layout that spans from a light and tranquil composition to a powerful, dark, and royal arrangement of shapes and lines.Click image to see the gallery.
Icon System >> Process BookThe purpose of this project was to create a cohesive icon system. Throughout the course of this assignment I went through an extensive design process and learned the effectiveness of communicating with a consistent visual language.
Graphic Translation | This visual interpretation of a pair of glasses is the result of analytical drawings, shaded renderings and marker studies. The process was a precursor to the icon system so that essential form was fully understood before creating simplified representations.
Nine Grid Letter Composition | In this assignment I explored the Edwardian Script letterform E by arranging it into an abstract composition. Each square of this nine part grid is meant to work together to create a fluid composition while still demonstrating contrasting size, placement, and rotation.
Visual Semantics | This typography assignment was an exercise in translating the meaning of a set of antonyms into visual language.
3D Renderings | These are two 3d images I created using Maxon Cinema 4d.
Findlay Market Website Redesign >> Process Book | download to view all 5 layoutsIn this assignment I redesigned Findlay Market's website. Taking into consideration the need for a simplified navigation, a consistent identity, and the portrayal of a historical and fresh market setting, I designed the new site to have a fun, vintage aesthetic.

Self-Portrait | Done with colored pencils on black paper.
Valentine's Day Messenger | For this illustration I wanted to embrace my quintessential nature to draw all things girly. This is my version of cupid as a zebra steed colored of strawberries and cream and a messenger decked out in cupcake pink and candy purple.Click image to see larger version
Writhing Lily | Done with pen on fabric.
Master Replica | This is a recreation of Alphonse Mucha's 'Morning Star' that I painted using acrylics on canvas.
Patterned Figures | These are two vector illustrations that I did as an exploration in figure drawing and graphic patterns.
Hummingbird | This illustration was done for my business card. I wanted my card to correlate to the aesthetic and theme of my site while also displaying some of my illustrative abilities.

The Barn | In this photo, taken at the Kentucky Horse Park, the doorway is a framing device to enhance the details of the scene.
Sun Light | In this shot, I wanted to capture the power of the sun and the utility of a light bulb, integrating both natural and manufactured light into one photograph.
Bridling | This photography assignment was an exercise in narration. I went out and took pictures of a horse being bridled then selected the three that would best communicate a cohesive sequence.
Juiced Monarchs | This was a photoshop exercise where I was assigned to take a fruit and create an interesting compostion using various images.
Crookshanks | In this photo my goal was to capture the way the cat was posed on the fence as the wind blew his fur.
Alyse | In this photo of my youngest cousin I wanted to capture her essence from her blonde pigtails to the crumbs on her lips.
Peanut Butter Brownies | Lately I have taken an interest in photographing food. I use natural lighting and setting to make the subject appear as scrumptious as possible.
Tangled Nest | In this assignment we were required to use chicken eggs in a creative way. After setting up and taking this photograph of myself, I took a shot of the eggs and used Photoshop to create a bird's nest out of my hair.
